Instagram is one of the hottest social networking websites right now thanks to its addictivel nature and mobile friendly setup. One of the biggest trends that have taken the 100 million registered users of the photo sharing site is food related pictures. Instagram users can be seen at restaurants taking pictures of their food with their smartphones to share with friends and family. The food establishments have now picked up on the trend and the trendy restaurants are now using the power of the social network to help their business.

One good example is a Latin American eatery in Soho, New York named Comodo. The recently opened location has created the “first-ever Instagram menu” which has become quite a hit with its customers. The Latin American joint encourages its guests to take images of the food and then tag them with #ComodoMenu. What this allows users to do is then share the image of the food with friends and family or even have a look at what other people in the restaurant are eating.

The Instagram Menu idea has really taken off but the major issue that Comodo faces is that it cannot control what people post. Since Instagram does not allow anyone to control what other users post, anything can end up with the Comodo tag, which establishes a significant element of risk. This type of negative effect can include bad reviews, sloppy food or just random pictures of food that is not on the menu.  The only way the restaurant can keep #ComodoMenu positive and favorable is to call out any one that is messing around. Let’s hope their patrons and fans can ensure that they can make this Instagram experiment a successful one.
