This great nation of ours is incredible for innumerable reasons, There is always room to add to that list. It seems that Canada also presents a great launch site for mobile applications that are intended for the US due a much more manageable populace.
San Francisco based ride sharing company Ridejoy have done just that, launching their iPhone application (download here) in Canada August 1, 2012. Due to expansive distances between major cities ride sharing is becoming a viable option for travellers looking for good company and lower travel rates.
The app works to aid a community of ride sharers, be they drivers or passengers to get together in an easy and effective way. According to the company’s website, Ridejoy has brought people together of 4,898 rides between 835 cities.
Ridejoy was founded in 2011 by Randy Pang, Jason Shen and Kalvin Wang. Since then, they have received quite a bit of support, including a $1.3 million round backed by Y Combinator. According to the company, Canadians have represented 8% of the total user base since the 2011 launch.
