At a time when every BlackBerry fan is eagerly waiting for the launch of the next BB10 devices, Research In Motion stunned everyone by announcing the release of an outmoded smartphone and that too just a week before the grand launching ceremony of the next flagship smartphones.
The name of this new device is BlackBerry Curve 9315 and the shocking thing about this upcoming smartphone is that it runs the old version of Blackberry OS 7.1. Moreover, just like its predecessors, users will find QWERTY keyboard in it, as unlike the next gen Blackberry phones this one does not have a Touch plus QWERTY option.
The release of the Blackberry Curve 9315 will be made solely through U.S. telecom carrier T-Mobile and the launch date that RIM has set for this handset is January 23, 2013.
The launch of such an archaic phone by RIM at this point in time was a complete shocker, as soon after its release, a new line-up of BB10 smartphones will also be available for sale, so the question arises that who would buy this redundant Curve 9315.
The answer to this question is that the Curve 9315 will target entry level mobile users, as it will be offered for a two year contract at a price of $49.99. In addition to this, users will also have to pay a monthly fee of $10 in order to use this old-fashioned smartphone.
As far as the specifications of this slightly updated phone are concerned, it will feature a 3.2 megapixel camera and a microSD card slot. So with these features it remains to be seen how much profit RIM will make with this lifeless smartphone.
