BlackBerry news has been hitting the headlines with updates and releases for the last couple of weeks as the Canadian technology giant gets ready to launch its upcoming BlackBerry 10 platform and related device. Only last week Research In Motion retooled the Facebook app for BlackBerry to have a lot more BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) support. Now the waterloo-based Research in Motion (RIM) has given users another reason to be excited as it stated that BBM user can make voice calls from within the app through BBM Voice.

The feature was made public a month ago and has been only available to beta users. With BBM 7 ready to be included in BlackBerry App World soon, users can download and install the service to see what RIM has cooked up with BBM Voice. Users will need to make sure that they are running at least BlackBerry 6 OS. However, RIM has not forgotten people that may be hanging on to older versions and should introduce the feature in BlackBerry 5 by next year.

BBM has been quite a popular feature from RIM and the instant messenger service is usually used as a alternative to SMS because it is free between BBM users. The latest upgrade lets users keep using the text based format with the ability to switch to BBM Voice without a hitch. The voice call is also free over a WiFi connection. BBID Synchronization has also been included in the latest BBM which will link the BlackBerry ID to BBM Profile, Groups and Contacts. Another interesting new feature is automatic update notifications within the app itself.

In addition to this, BBM will also now notify you when there are new updates to the app from within the app itself, while BBID Synchronization means your BBM Profile, Groups and Contacts are now linked to your BlackBerry ID.
