As fans of BlackBerry devices wait for Research in Motion (RIM) to release the heavily anticipated BlackBerry 10 platform, the company is hard at work updating apps for its current devices and BBM service. Recently the Canadian technology giant updated its Facebook app with new features, a design upgrade and some very interesting BBM connectivity. Version 3.3 of BlackBerry’s Facebook App is available on the BlackBerry App store but may require 24 hours to appear in all storefronts around the world.
RIM follows in the footsteps of Microsoft and develops its own Facebook app just like the maker of Windows Phone does for its mobile platform. RIM knows that BBM is its strongest asset and the company is trying hard to create meaningful integration between their service and the world’s largest social network. Users of the app can now let other Facebook users know their BlackBerry PIN and connect on BBM. The app also lets the user know which of their friends already have BBM and can then invite them to connect on the service with just one tap. The app allows the user to quickly remove people from the friend’s list.
The new BlackBerry Facebook app has also upgraded photo viewing and speed. Users can now see much higher resolution images quickly by tapping the thumbnails which are all visible at the same time. BB owners can also save the images from Facebook to their phone or memory card.
Many rumors have been circulating that point at Facebook’s intention of buying up instant-messaging service WhatsApp. The service is very similar to BBM and it seems RIM is looking to develop a service that high integration with Facebook to keep the competition from cutting them out of Facebook.
