Research In Motion is doing everything within its power to make the next gen Blackberry 10 a hit. The Waterloo based company held a 36 hour long “BlackBerry port-a-thon” over the weekend and developers submitted a massive 15,000 apps for the new platform. This incredible influx of apps verifies RIM’s CMO, Frank Boulben’s earlier statment in which he said that “at launch we will have more than 70,000 apps available.”
As of right now it is not clear how many of these submitted apps have received a green light from RIM for publication on the app store. The submission of applications in such a huge number before the launch of BB10 OS is a great achievement by the struggling Canadian technology giant and shows that developers are deeply interested in developing apps for the Blackberry platform.
RIM has also reminded developers through a blog post that devs who wish to win a “Limited Edition BlackBerry 10″ device should finish, sign and submit their apps before January 21 to BlackBerry World. This means that all devs now have just less than a week time to submit their apps in order to get a chance to win a Limited Edition BB10 smartphone. But to do so devs not only have to follow the strict terms and conditions set by RIM, but they also have to give up BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha.
Besides this RIM has also made it known that the lucky dev, who wins the “Limited Edition BlackBerry 10″ smartphone after submitting his or her app in time by following all the rules, can expect to get the device at his or her doorstep through mail in “six to eight weeks after the BlackBerry 10 launch on January 30, 2013.”
