The well-known Finnish gaming company and maker of the extremely popular Angry Birds game, Rovio Entertainment, declared on Friday, January 11  that they have over a quarter billion “active users”. The company made the announcement through its official Twitter account, in which it noted that:

“Over 260 million active users for our games means one thing: We’re not stopping here! Thanks everyone!”

Rovio Entertainment did not provide any further details on the Twitter update and it can be assumed that the “260 million” figure that the gaming firm is providing is most probably referring to the monthly number of active users.

The statistic is an amazing milestone for Rovio Entertainment considering the fact that they have not produced any other successful game beside Angry Birds. In fact they seem to be working further to expand their franchise and the latest edition of their game, Angry Birds Star Wars, was released just over a month ago.

This was also a great feat for Rovio Entertainment because back in October of last year, Executive Vice President, Andrew Stalbow, made it known at the Mipcom conference held in Cannes, France that Angry Birds had achieved 200 million monthly users. In addition to this Stalbow also said that, “In any given day, we have 20 to 30 million people playing our games connected.”

So this was a quick gain of users by the Finland based gaming firm considering the time frame between the two announcements. Future plans of the Rovio Entertainment are unknown, but it has been reported that an Angry Birds movie is coming in 2016.
