While Apple chief Tim Cook tries to please the company’s shareholders by mentioning that great stuff is in the offing, the rumours regarding its new products have once again started floating. A recent report has now claimed that Apple is working on a cost-effective iPhone that will be released this year, and a follow-up of iPhone 5 that could be released next year.

This seems an interesting development because this report does not tell us something new as far as products are concerned. Although the company has always remained tight-lipped over these speculations, the rumours with respect to the cost-effective iPhone and the next generation phone are in the market for some time now.

However, the point to note here is the timings that are mentioned in the new report by Macotakara, via AppleInsider. Initially, it was speculated that Apple would come up with these products in this year, but the report indicates that the cost-effective iPhone is scheduled for launch this year while the next generation phone has been deferred to 2014.

The report also tells that the cheaper iPhone model will use a material like the glossy polycarbonate body present on Apple’s entry level MacBook and that the price of this model would be around $330. The main difference between the usual iPhone models and the cheaper version will be of cost and material used. The design is reportedly going to be more or less the same.

Although there is no confirmation about these developments from the company, we think that Apple might be seriously considering the cost-effective phone because it is the only way for the technology giant to capture the large smartphone markets and attract more users from countries like China and India. As far as the number of users is concerned, these two markets are said to be among the biggest for the smartphone industry, but high-end products like those manufactured by Apple are not easily affordable there. That is why the users rely more on Samsung and other Android-using devices as they are cheaper.

Meanwhile, it has been reported about the next generation iPhone that it is not going to be launched this year. Another thing that has been reported with respect to its features is the addition of a dual-flash LED module on the back of the device to aid in picture taking.
