In an attempt to secure its place in the market and beat rivals, Apple is reportedly working on a cheaper version of iPhone that could be launched this year.
Apple is facing a serious competition from its rivals including Samsung that uses Google’s Android as its operating system and has gained popularity. Although no official confirmation from Apple has been received regarding the less-expensive iPhone project, a number of media reports have claimed that Apple is trying to secure its place in the market by introducing cheaper iPhones.
Many reports have also suggested that the cost of the new phone will be half of Apple’s latest smartphone, iPhone5. This could make Apple a go-to brand for every consumer. At present, it cannot be afforded by everyone and hence the company has lost a major market share that is handsomely captured by its rivals.
By introducing a cheaper smartphone, Apple can attempt to recapture the market, but it is still not know how the consumers will respond to the new product, if it is released by Apple.
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that the new iPhone will have a less-expensive body that will reduce the smartphone’s price considerably. Moreover, Apple could also recycle its previous models to create the new ones. Since the company has declined to comment on the development, there is a view that the project is still under consideration and could be shelved, if needed.
Since Tim Cook has replaced Steve Jobs as Apple’s CEO, the company seems to have shifted its marketing strategy slightly. Cook wants to target a larger market and reach out to more people and that is one of the reasons why Apple introduced iPad Mini earlier.
