Samsung made it known sometime ago that it is working on a smartwatch, but other than that the company has not disclosed any more details regarding the new device. However, numerous reports so far have not only shared different specs for Samsung’s smartwatch, but also claimed that it would be called the Galaxy Gear smartwatch. Now SamMobile, a well-known source for revealing the correct details of unannounced devices, has reported that Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Gear smartwatch at the upcoming IFA event. The event will take place in Berlin on September 4 and the smartwatch will be introduced in the Unpacked Episode 2 of the event.

Reports suggests that Galaxy Gear smartwatch will carry model number SM-V700 and rather than being a substitute of smartphones, it will work as an accessory with Galaxy handsets of Samsung. Initial leaked images had shown that the smartwatch can play music, send and receive text messages and do much more. To the extent specs of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch are concerned, last week’s SamMobile’s report claimed that it will sport a dual core processor with Exynos 4212 chipset, a 2-megapixe camera, 1GB of RAM, a 1.67-inch AMOLED display with 320×320 resolution, NFC and Bluetooth connectivity in order to integrate with smartphones.

Since the aforementioned specs did not receive any confirmation from Samsung, so one cannot surely say that we may find the same features in Galaxy Gear when it will be made available for sale. But considering the several patents that Samsung has filed regarding its smartwatch most of the aforementioned specs seems believable. Nevertheless, Samsung is not only company that is working on a smartwatch, its biggest rival Apple is also believed to preparing a smartwatch, but the iOS device maker has not officially confirmed it.

As far as IFA Berlin event is concerned, reports also suggest that Samsung is not only going to roll out the Galaxy Gear smartwatch on September 4, it may also announce the third edition of its popular phablet, the Galaxy Note. But at this point in time details regarding Galaxy Note III are pretty scarce. During this year, Samsung has announced more Galaxy devices than ever before, as the company has added several new smartphones to its list along with several new tablets as well. Now it seems to be gearing up to launch the Galaxy Note III and enter into the smartwatch market at the same time.
