AppleInsider has released a new report which divulged that South Korean electronics giant Samsung has claimed that the company is developing 5G wireless technology which is going to be a hundred times faster than the existing 4G LTE network. This would enable users to download full high definition movies in seconds. The Galaxy smartphone maker announced on Sunday, May 12th that it has uploaded and downloaded at a speed of gigabits per second (Gbps) by deploying 28GHz waveband. Currently the max speed users can get with the 4G LTE metwork is 75 Mbps.

The Korean manufacturer also made it known on Sunday that it has utilised 64 antenna elements to achieve the high-speed data transfer and the company hopes to commercialize the 5G technology by 2020. However, Samsung is not alone in this race, as China is also pouring a lot of money into this next gen wireless technology and expects to roll it out for general public during the same year (2020) in which the Korean company is looking to commercialize the product.

Moreover, the European Commission has also given the same dead line to bring out the technology by the same year. This is not the first time that Samsung has gotten involved in the development of wireless technology. The company has been working on the project for several years now and in fact has patented most of its work.

Here is what the AppleInsider has reported: “Samsung on Sunday announced that it had developed a core component of its 5G network by solving a problem that has stymied the wireless industry, Yonhap News reported. In practice, that speed would allow wireless users to download a full HD movie in seconds. Samsung executives see the technology enabling a wide range of rich applications.

Samsung is however not alone in developing next generation wireless technology, nor is its recently announced demonstration the fastest of its kind. NTT DoCoMo in February announced that it had successfully conducted a 10Gbps wireless test in Japan last year using the 11GHz band.”

On the other hand, a survey conducted in North America last year revealed that although the 4G LTE network offers far better speed than 3G, approximately half of the consumers in the region said that they do not require the high speeds. So if such a huge population is not willing to accept the 4G LTE then, Samsung and other companies which are working on 5G wireless technology should not ignore this fact.
