As if the hotly anticipated debut of its latest hybrid smartphone tablet device, the Galaxy Note II (TQ was on it) wasn’t enough, Korean tech giant Samsung had some other hybrid devices to share with the crowd at this year’s IFA Consumer Electronics Show.

The company debuted their latest Series 5 and Series 7 tablet-laptop hybrids which feature touchscreen friendly Windows 8. The dual functionality comes by way of a well-designed detachable keyboard which clicks into place securely and is removed just as easily. The devices, which both feature 11.6” touchscreens will also feature Samsung’s popular S-Pen stylus. The stylus has been widely praised by users and critics alike in both the Samsung Note II and Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet as well (TQ was on it).

According to the good people at AllThingsD, the devices are fairly light with the Series 5 and Series 7 weighing 1.65 pounds and 1.89 pounds respectively. The more robust Series 7 will feature a dual-core 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 along with 4 GB of RAM and an impressive 1920 x 1080 resolution multi-touch screen. The 7 is expected to retail at $1,199 and feature a 128 GB SSD drive.

The less decorated Series 5 wil be powered by an Intel Atom dual core processor, 2 GB RAM and 64 GB SSD drive for $749. The device will also be available for sale without the detachable keyboard for $649.

According to the highly reputable TechCrunch, the detachable keyboard works by way of mechanical hinges rather than magnetic ones. This system is similar to Windows Surface tablets. The keyboard portion has heft, giving the device the appearance of a laptop when folded together.
