March 14th has finally come as Samsung revealed its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S IV, in an over the top event that was held in New York City. For the occasion Samsung not only organised a long series of skits, but a live performance from an orchestra. Head of Samsung Mobile Communications, JK Shin, took the curtain off Galaxy S IV’s features one by one and also revealed that the latest Galaxy S series phone sports the much rumoured Samsung Knox, Samsung Smart Scroll and another new trait dubbed as the “S Translator” for translation. Along with these new features the Galaxy S IV also touts some new sensors, which includes humidity, temperature (works with its “S Health” mode) and infrared gesture. Besides this, officially now it is confirmed that the S IV has a 5-inch 441ppi screen, 13mp rear camera, 2mp front camera with dual-camera recording function. As far as its chipset is concerned the rumour proved true that S IV will be made available in two editions, one with 1.9GHz quad-core processor and other with 1.6GHz octa-core processor, depending on the market. However, the Korean company did not roll out the price of its brand new product, but it boldly called the smartphone a “life companion.”
Shin said that, “With the GALAXY S 4, Samsung is again going to enhance the way we live. All the innovative features of GALAXY S 4 were developed based on the insights and needs we found from our consumers all around the world. Following the successful GALAXY S series, this phone is yet another great proof point of people-inspired innovation. At Samsung we’ll never stop pursuing innovation conceived by people, so we can inspire them in return.”
During the event Samsung also shed some light on the latest features of the Galaxy S IV including a dual-camera mode. The company said that this function enables both cameras on the device to work at the same whether you want to snap a photo or shoot a video. Moreover, a “sound in shot” mode is also added in the Galaxy S IV that enables users to record a sound clip and then they can attach it to an image. Other than this, users will also find the touchless “air view” and eraser feature on the latest smartphone.
Mentioning the details of new S Translator, Samsung said that it allows users to translate 9 different languages live from speech-to-text and text-to-speech. The S Translator in integrated with S IV’s messaging and email app called Chaton and it comprises of 3,000 “useful sentences” which are embedded in it so it could be used online. The Korean company has also included a Group Play feature in S IV that enables its owners to play music on 8 S IV smartphones without any internet connection.
In the US, Samsung will sell the Galaxy S IV through T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, US Cellular, Cricket and Verizon Wireless. A spokesperson for T-Mobile said on the occasion that the telecom carrier is, “excited to partner with Samsung to bring the Samsung Galaxy S4 to our customers. We look forward to sharing more information soon.” But T-Mobile made it known that they are not accepting pre-registration for the S IV. In the other parts of the world Samsung will sell the new device through its global telecom partners like Vodafone, Telefonica, Telia Sonera, Deutsche Telecom, Orange, EE, H3G and Orange.
