This month seems to be turning out great for Samsung, as first the South Korean electronics manufacturer celebrated 30 million sold units of its Galaxy S III smartphone and then, its cherished Galaxy Note II hit 3 million sales after just 37 days following its release.
Now Strategy Analytics data revealed that Samsung has outclassed its old rival, Apple. the company’s flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy S III has become the world’s most well-liked smartphone, snatching that title from the iPhone in the third quarter of this year.
This was indeed a big score by Samsung in the marketplace, especially after losing a huge chunk of its revenue to Apple as a result of a law suit for infringing various patents. This victory by Samsung may be short lived because sales of Apple’s iPhone 4s were low due to the expected release of its iPhone 5 that was released just 9 days before the end of third quarter.
On the other hand, the Galaxy S III was available for sale in the entire third quarter. Therefore, Apple failed to tally stronger sales than Samsung, however it is more than likely that fourth quarter results may find the latest iOS device with this title once again.
Another strong reason for believing that the Galaxy S III will lose this title is that the iPhone 5 has very strong demand and Apple has already sold 5 million units of this new device in the first week of its launch. Moreover, the manufacturing company for the iPhone 5, Foxconn is also struggling to meet customers demand.
On top of this, the Galaxy S III has won this battle from the iPhone 4s individually because if you combine the sales percentage of both iPhone 4s and 5 in the third quarter it counts 11.3 percent to S III’s 10.7 percent. Enjoy the accolade while you can Samsung.
