While talking to the media last week, co-Chief Executive Officer of Samsung, Shin Jong-kyu claimed that he expects the Galaxy S IV to achieve 10 million units sales milestone during the week. His assertion has proved true and on Thursday, May 23rd, the South Korean electronics manufacturer announced that its latest flagship handset has achieved the expected mark. With this feat Galaxy S IV has become the fastest selling smartphone in the history of Samsung. The Korean smartphone maker has made the S IV available for sale at the end of April and it has achieved the mark within the first month of its release that is 20 times quicker than its predecessor Galaxy S III, which was able to reach the 10 million milestone in two months time period after its release.
Although, it was a remarkable feat by Galaxy S IV, Apple’s iPhone sales numbers are superior to Samsung’s flagship device, the iPhone 5, which within the first week of its launch surpassed the 5 million sales mark. Moreover, when Apple launched the iPhone 5 in China, two million units of the smartphone got sold just after the first week it was released. Still one cannot rule out Samsung’s smartphone from this race, as the company has so far sold more than 100 million Galaxy devices.
On top of it, the latest Consumer Report has rated Samsung Galaxy S IV, as the “new top-rated smartphone”, earlier this title belongs to LG Optimus G. According to the report, “The S4 delivered top-notch performance in the most critical areas of our tests, including the camera. The S4 has an excellent 5-inch, high-definition (1080p) touch-screen display, as well as oodles of gesture- and sensor-based tools for accessing and sharing content you create and capture on your phone. The display is sensitive enough to use with gloves on—handy during cold weather …”
In addition, rival smartphones like HTC One, Sony Xperia Z and latest BlackBerry 10 handsets were not able to affect Galaxy S IV’s sales despite offering unique new features. This clearly indicates that the new 5-inch beast from Samsung has a lot to offer users and it is because of this very reason the flagship device has such strong demand. However, one cannot rule out the impact of Samsung’s grand launch event of the S IV in New York City and massive marketing campaign that this smartphone has enjoyed both before and after the release.
