Samsung is facing strong competition in the smartphone and tablet space, but there still is one category where this South Korean electronics giant holds an almost monopolistic position. This particular space is that of the ‘phablet’ device, implying the hybrid union between smartphone and tablet which the Korean company created by developing the first generation Galaxy Note I a couple of years ago.
The well received second generation of this hybrid device known as Galaxy Note II has already come to market without a competing device coming to the forefront. Due to this reason, the 5.5 inch display handset has recently achieved the one million sales mark in its motherland. This was a remarkable achievement made by this hybrid device considering the fact that it was released in late September. In addition, the smartphone managed to do so just after a month when Samsung declared that worldwide sales had surpassed 5 million units.
If the Galaxy Note II continues to attract buyers with the same torrid pace, it is anticipated that Samsung would be able to achieve 10 million units sold in next four to five months. Although the Korean company has achieved this figure with the Galaxy Note I, it took the first phablet more time to attain this landmark as compared to the second gen device.
We at TQ will be paying close attention to whether the Galaxy Note II will remain successful in beating its predecessor in terms of sales as deftly as it does in terms of features and functionality.
