South Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung announced through its Flickr page that its Galaxy S smartphone series had surpassed the 100 million unit milestone. The Galaxy S smartphones exceed 100 million sales in two years and seven months counting from the release of the first Galaxy phone back in May 2010. It was after its launch that Samsung was able to get a hold of a big chunk of the mobile market share and it continued to grow with the release of each next Galaxy S smartphone. So far Samsung has released two editions of the original Galaxy S which goes by the name of S II and S III and now analysts expect that the fourth generation of the series will see first light by the summer of 2013.
Samsung sold 25 million units of the original Galaxy S phone, whereas its successor Galaxy S II saw a sale of over 40 million and its latest version S III is selling “at [a] much faster rate,” as it jumped past the 1o million mark within just 50 days of its release. Its sales crossed the 30 million mark in five months and reached the 40 million mark in seven months and is still counting.
However, in contrast to Samsung Galaxy S series smartphones, Apple has sold 250 million units of its iPhone till now. But the California based tech giant has been able to pull this off because it had launched this smartphone back in 2007, three years before first Galaxy S smartphone.
