The 2013 International CES has kept the technology blogs and news outlets around the world buzzing with new products and concepts. One of the biggest presenters at this years convention is South Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung who has been showing off their latest smartphones, tablets, and much more. In previous events Samsung’s TVs have been popular with the crowds and this year is no different with the manufacturer showcasing a curved OLED TV. Samsung claims that the beautiful slim TV is the first of its kind and consumers will have to pony up some major cash to get one of these in their living room.
The details about the OLED TV are not clear but the PR team has stated that the display will be 55-inches diagonally. They also mentioned the device will be ready for consumers in the second have of the year. The viewing experience is quite unique and the curve of the panel gives an IMAX feel to watching TV. The curve causes the viewer to feel as if they are surrounded by the image on the screen. According to Samsung the curve in the display also gives panoramic images close to life viewing.
Another advantage of the curved display on the OLED screen is that theoretically issues with viewing angles would be resolved because the pixels on the screen would bend towards the viewer. This may sound like a good idea with LCD displays because at an angle it will loose color saturation. However, OLED does not have this issue and it is hard to say how much of a difference the curve makes for that sort of display.
Buyers will just have to wait and see when the new curved OLED TV from Samsung will hit store shelves to get an idea of how much more enhanced the viewing experience is with the new design.
