Samsung made sure that the holidays were a happy time for its consumers and fans as it made several announcements after Christmas. The South Korean electronics maker launched a CES 2013 Smart TV teaser video, a look at Smart Hub, a new content platform for the Samsung Smart TV, and an updated version of ChatON.

ChatON 2.0 took another step in replacing SMS as the go to messaging system by turning the cross-platform messaging app into a “micro” social network. Samsung wants the users of its service in 200 countries that speak 60 languages to utilize the ChatON 2.0 app as a social network by creating profiles and updating their friends and family about their activities. The latest version is really pushing the social media aspect and makes leaving comments, posting content like videos and images and other tasks a lot easier. Samsung has created a “Trunk” where users leave all types of content. This is also considered a stop for content before it is uploaded to Facebook or other social networks.

ChatON 2.0 now has a multiscreen feature that makes chatting with five people at the same time possible. Current users can invite their friends to the service using different platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Weibo.

The other updated service from Samsung is Smart Hub. The feature is the Korean manufacturers attempt to change the TV viewing experience. Users can watch live broadcasts, watch movies, use apps, and browse images all at the same time. Samsung announced that next year Smart Hub will be a “more intuitive experience with various contents, live TV broadcasts, VOD, apps, Internet and such.” There wil also be a “Flipping” function that consumers can use to flip through screens using Samsung’s motion control function.

All these features are expected to be used along with Samsungs new Smart TV. The device is expected to be launched at CES 2013.
