Samsung is going to launch its next Galaxy S series smartphone in New York, where it will hold a big event on March 14th to uncover one of the most anticipated phones of the year. There are only a few days left in the event but the curiosity about the forthcoming Galaxy S IV is increasing with each passing day because this time we have not gotten to see the usual plethora of leaked images or other information related to the device. Therefore analysts and fans are only making guesses about how the S IV might look, what new features its will boast and other interesting features. Although some features of the Galaxy S IV have surfaced online thanks to the recently leaked Antutu benchmark test results and few other reports, it is still not clear whether Galaxy S IV will have a plastic cover just like its predecessors or not. The answer to this question was finally given by Y.H. Lee, an executive VP at Samsung, who has said that South Korean company has not changed the material in the making of its upcoming device.

This pretty much confirms that the Galaxy S IV will have a plastic body. However, the statement from the executive of Samsung will be no less than a revelation for many because other smartphone manufacturers, including Nokia have now decided to discard plastic bodies. The Finnish mobile maker is reportedly looking to introduce a polycarbonate model and an aluminum model. On the other hand, Taiwan-based HTC has already introduced its flagship device HTC One in aluminium. But surprisingly Samsung has decided to persist with the same material.

Mentioning the reason behind the move, Lee said that Samsung used plastic because practically it is not possible for the company to produce millions of handsets by using another material, as with other material it will take Galaxy smartphone maker more time to ensure that no defective pieces have been dispatched. Another possible reason behind using the plastic could be that users often demand removable back covers so they can replace the battery. Plus unlike other materials plastic covers offer more durability, as they can be stretched to a point before snapping into two pieces. In addition to this, plastic can also resist strong physical impact.

Here the question arises whether Samsung fans will approve of a plastic cover in the Galaxy S IV at a time when other smartphone makers are offering them models in higher quality materials.
