Music discovery app Shazam is quite popular among users all over the world and the latest data shows the service is available in six countries with 120 million users. Canada has a nice share of the user base with 7.5 million in the country accounting for 22% of Canada. The popularity of the app stems from its uncanny ability to identify music and songs that are played from an external source  so that users can know the name an artist of the song. Shazam is now expanding its services by integrating with Rdio. Now a user can listen to the song they have just identified using Shazam through the Rdio streaming music service. The Us has been able to utilize the service since the middle of 2012 but Canadian users just got the new feature in the Free and Encore versions of the iOS and Android app.

According to TechVibes the features works something like this:

“Users who tap on the “Listen on Rdio” link on songs they have tagged will open the Rdio app on their device to play the song. For those that don’t have the app installed, the link will take you first to the Rdio app download page in your applicable app store. Within the Rdio app, full versions of the song will play for those with valid subscriptions (trial or paid) while a short clip of the song will play for those that need to sign-up or renew.”

Shazam’s partnership with Rdio is the first one for the firm and before this all the app did was give iOS users a previews of the song through iTunes or a YouTube video. For now the iTunes route is the most apparent method to purchase songs or listen to them in the iOS version. Android users in Canada should also find the new feature an attractive upgrade because they can now have a preview feature which did not exist previously. They also get the ability to buy through Amazon.

Drew Larner, CEO of Rdio, states that, “Rdio’s partnership with Shazam closes the loop between discovering a song and being able to hear it again and again. The combination of Rdio and Shazam gives music lovers the fastest tagging service and a groundbreaking digital music service so they can identify, save, and organize their music discoveries,” said Jason Titus, CTO of Shazam.

Rdio should get more business thanks to the Shazam app integration in Canada. The streaming music service claims that iOS  users visit the service double the number of times they do on the web. They also have 15% more visits than Android users.
