Simon Cowell is well known for TV shows that hunt for the top talent in the entertainment industry. His hit shows include popular names like American Idol which has spawned similar shows all around the world as well as his very own creation, X Factor. The former American Idol judge is now teaming up with Will.i.am to launch a TV show that will find the next big technology entrepreneur. The Sun reports that Simon and the Black Eyed Peas member will be looking to showcase tech based business ideas from people that could be the next Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates.
Not much is known about when the new show will be released in prime time Furthermore, the exact format of the show is still a mystery. Looking back at previous shows that Simon has been involved in it can be assumed that there will be a panel of judges looking at individual or group ideas. It will be interesting to see whether industry experts will be included in the judging panels.
The rapper Will.i.am talked to The Sun about the show and what it plans to achieve by stating, “Singing and performance create a couple of jobs. But this will create lots … It’s about getting in touch with youth and giving them a platform to express themselves — whether that’s in science or mathematics.”
The idea of putting entrepreneurs on stage to be judged is not new and current shows like Shark Tank already have similar premises. However, the Simon and Wil.I.Am combination is looking to focus on technology start-ups and ideas which seem to be the main stream today. Other producers have also picked up on the trend and Bravo is launching the reality show Silicon Valley Start-Ups soon.
