Skype is among the most favourable options when one has to make international calls and connect with their friends and family. The audio and video service that also is suitable for users has somewhat hurt the carriers as mobile phones are not used to make those calls. However, some new developments have brought Skype and the carriers on the same page.

Skype has recently joined hands with a carrier in Russia. The deal between the two will allow users to get Skype Credit and pay their Skype bills through their carriers. The users will get their bills from the carriers and will pay accordingly. Skype will receive the payment, but the carriers will also have their cut in the amount.

A press statement (via engadget) issued in this regard states:

“With this new payment option, Skype users can now purchase Skype Credit from their mobile devices through a browser-based transaction that is secure, seamless and convenient. They can pay for this transaction either as part of their monthly cell phone bill or using their mobile carrier’s pre-paid account balance.”

The idea behind introducing the new mode of payment is to ensure frictionless transaction and give users a better experience.  The new service will not affect the amount of payment and the Skype Credit for these transactions will stay as it was before.

The service has only been started in Russia, but it will soon be available in the U.S. and Canada. Throughout this year Skype is going to reach out to different markets with the same idea, hoping to attract more users and create a new revenue stream.

Talking about Skype’s association with MACH, and reaching other markets, Skype Director Billing and Payments, Jason Macklin, said:

“Since the announcement of our partnership with MACH in September last year, we have seen direct operator billing gather momentum in North America and Russia, and we are looking forward to rolling the solution out in additional markets in the near future.”

By allowing the customers to directly pay for their Skype Credit, Skype has made an attempt towards eliminating the difficult hurdles one has to go through to pay for the services. Now the users only have to pay their mobile bills and get their Skype credit adjusted in them.
