After a mere 70 days, Songza, a New York based music streaming start-up has been able to register one million Canadian users. This is a remarkable achievement considering the fact that Songza has managed to gain a large following in a very short span while doing so without any invasive audio advertisement.
The main reason behind the success of this app is that it streams songs according to the day, time, mood and device users are using, Songza can be compared to a “Music Concierge” that sorts music by factoring in all the aforementioned things. This ensures that users no longer need to spend unnecessary time searching for the right songs. As one company executive put it, their playlists are, “thoughtfully handcrafted by a network of music experts to ensure you always get the right song for the right moment.”
Due to this reason Songza has immediately made its presence felt in Canada after its launch. Canadians have been quicker than Americans in adopting and using this wonderful app, doing so approximately four per cent more than our neighbours to the south. Songza’s CEO, Elias Roman said, “We saw an opportunity to bring that experience to Canada and we’re thrilled to see such positive results just seventy days later.”
As far as the favourite mood selection for Canadians is concerned, the most popular choice seems to be “Mellow”. Canadians have also streamed over 160 million songs from this app by its 70th day. In addition to this, Songza had been installed on iOS devices including iPhone, iPod and iPad over 900,000 times, a clear indication of how popular the app and service are..
Aside from all of the good things mentioned above, there are some things to be cognizant of. Songza’s Android app has been reported to be less than perfect, freezing on occasion. It is also possible to consume a significant chunk of data if users are not mindful while enjoying music that suits their taste and mood.
