Sony revealed the much anticipated and rumoured Xperia Z Ultra during an event in Beijing, China. The Xperia Z Ultra boasts an amazing 6.4-inch Full HD display along with the Reality sensor from Sony, which according to the Japanese OEM offers wider and richer colours. The device is similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note II in that the Xperia ZU also supports a stylus, but the best part is that it also has the capability to support any type of pencil, which so far none of the phablets in the market offer. In addition to this, the Japanese smartphone maker also claims that Xperia ZU is the “world’s slimmest and largest full HD smartphone.” However the 6.5mm thickness and 212 grams of weight does not make it as thin as Huawei Ascend P6 that is 6.18mm thick and currently holds the title of being the world’s slimmest smartphone.
“Xperia Z Ultra features a 6.4” touchscreen Full HD display with Sony’s unique TRILUMINOS® Display for mobile, creating a wider palette of rich natural colours thanks to Sony’s BRAVIA TV expertise. The breakthrough technology includes X-Reality™ for mobile – Sony’s intelligent super resolution display technology which analyzes each image and reproduces lacking pixels to optimize quality for the sharpest videos. It analyses elements depending on the scene and adjusts them based on pattern, outline and colour composition. It also strengthens subtle patterns and accurately portrays their detailed feel, as well as reinforcing bold outlines. The large Full HD display has been optimised to experience at least 60%*** more of the screen than most other smartphones.”
Under the hood, the Xperia Z Ultra packs a powerful 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor that supports LTE data speeds. Moreover, alike the Xperia Z, Sony has made the ZU both water and dust resistant too, which again makes it distinct from the Note II. As far as other specifications of the newly announced hybrid device are concerned it includes an 8-megapixel rear camera, 16GB of internal memory plus a microSD card slot to further boost the storage and a 3,000mAH battery to keep it alive.
The Xperia Z Ultra will be made available in three different colours black, white and purple. However, on this occasion Sony did not announce the exact date of launch and the pricing of Xperia Z Ultra, but the Japan-based electronics manufacturer did say that a global sales of the new handset will begin from the third quarter of this year.
