Sony has finally revealed its much awaited next gen flagship smartphone, Xperia Z, at the International CES 2013 in Las Vega. As expected the novel handset from Sony has a 5-inch 1920×1080 pixel screen and includes a 1.5 Ghz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC processor together with 2GB RAM and an internal storage of 16GB that can be expanded by including a microSD card.
With the release of Xperia Z rumors that Sony’s new device would have a water resistance body proved true and the new handset is IP57 certified and it can resist both dust and water for up to 1 meter and 30 minutes. As far as its protection is concerned the new smartphone has a scratch resistant and shatter proof glass.
Moreover, Xperia Z is extremely slim and flat as compared to any of its predecessors, as its overall dimensions are 139 x 71 x 7.9 mm. This shows that Sony had to reconsider its design strategy before making this smartphone because neither this handset has thickness like Xperia ion and S, nor it has those curves, which customers have seen with Xperia T.
The LTE supported Xperia Z sports a Sony Mobile Bravia Engine 2 and it is powered by Android 4.1 that is upgradable to the 4.2 version of the OS when it is released. The 2330mAh non-removable battery delivers 11 hours of talk time on a 2G network and 14 hours on a 3G, while music can be played for 40 hours.
Some may not approve of the non-removable battery in Xperia Z, but its sleek design demands a fixed battery. Critics will be pleased to see three different colors including black, white and purple. People in Northern America will able to get their hands on Xperia Z in the first quarter of this year.
