TQ updated its readers last week about hoe Sony enticed its fans by revealing some of pictures and specs for the second edition of its smartwatch. Now the Japanese OEM has officially rolled out the details of its next gen smartwatch on its website. According to details, the second edition of Sony’s smartwatch works more like an accessory with any Android powered smartphone that is running Ice Cream Sandwich or a better version, as it connects with the handset by using Bluetooth. In addition to this, Sony has also included NFC connectivity in the new smartwatch, which allows the user to re-establish Bluetooth connectivity with a mobile phone when the two devices are out of range. However, once the handset and the watch come back in range the smartwatch automatically establish connection through Bluetooth, which makes NFC more of gimmick.

The 9mm slim smartwatch from Sony boasts a 1.6-inch 220×176 transflective LCD that is expected to be better in quality as compared to the OLED screen of its predecessor, as users were unable to view the display of its previous version in sunlight. The transflective LCD of the new watch includes three touch-sensitive buttons that enable the user to go back, home or access main menu. The weight of the forthcoming smartwatch is 122.5g that is equal to 4.32 oz and it has made the appearance in black colour only, but stainless steel wrist-strap plus tiny bezels surely gives it edge over the old version with a rubber strap. Apart from this Sony has also claimed that the new smartwatch will sport an impressive battery that will keep it alive for 3 to 4 days at least in case of normal usage.

The smatwatch is splash resistant and not water resistant alike recently launch smartphones from Sony, but the odd thing about the watch is that its strap is neither splash nor water resistant. According to the official website of Sony below are the supported apps that the smartwatch will include at the time of release:

“- SmartWatch 2 host Application

– Call handling (answer, reject, mute, volume handling)

– Call log

– Missed call notification

– Facebook

– Twitter

– Music remote extension/music handling

– Calendar

– Weather

– Viewfinder

– New events – aggregator

– Wide range of apps available at Google Play”

Sony did not announce the name and the exact launch date of the new smartwatch, but it is expected to be called “SmartWatch 2” and will hit the stores’ shelves in September. Besides this, Sony also did not shed light on the pricing of the smartwatch.
