Before today, different reports had surfaced online revealing that Sony was looking to introduce a new smartphone that could compete against Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy S III. Following the news, leaked images of an alleged new smartphone from Sony emerged online and it was claimed that this device would be the next flagship phone the Japanese company is planning to release.
However, Sony never confirmed any of these reports, but with less than a week left before the opening of international Customer Electronics Show 2013 the multinational corporation announced that they are holding a big press conference on the first day (January 8, 2013) of this event. Although Sony did not give away any further details about this press conference, numerous reports following this announcement indicated that the company will launch its next flagship smartphone and it will be called the “Xperia Z”.
In addition to this it was also reported that Sony will make this latest flagship smartphone available for sale on January 15, 2013, which means that just seven days after the big press conference people would be able to get their hands on this new device.
Finally this drama came to an end when Sony officially unveiled the press image of its upcoming smartphone on its website with just less than a week time left in the big press conference. This press image has revealed the design of the new smartphone from Sony and it has also verified that the name of the forthcoming handset is “Xperia Z”.
To the extent its features are concerned you will have to wait a little more, as Sony has not given out its specs details along with the press image. But the rumour has it that “Xperia Z” bears a 13 megapixel rear camera, a quad-core Qualcomm Snadragon S4 processor together with Adreno 320 GPU, 5-inch 1080p display, whereas its RAM is of 2GB and its overall dimensions are 139 x 71 x 7.9mm. The released image also includes Thai writing and pricing of 19,900 Baht, which is approximately $646 Canadian.
