It seems that Apple and Samsung are not the only two companies which have a deep interest in smartwatch, as Japanese electronics maker, Sony has reminded its followers with a series of tweets in the past couple of days that it was the first OEM to launch a wearable computing device. Sony was the first company which had rolled out an Android-based smartwatch earlier in 2012. However, now the Xperia device is gearing up to launch the successor of its previous smartwatch, as Sony has unveiled the forthcoming wearable device in one of the tweets it had posted over its Twitter account. All those tweets from Sony carry a #itstime hashtag and #MAE13 hashtag, which means Mobile Asia Expo that will take place in Shanghai next week and the Japanese company will hold an event on this occasion. It is expected that the next gen of Sony’s smartwatch may make its debut at the upcoming event, as one of the tweets simply reads “Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock” and includes a photo of the company’s wearable tech.
Reminding its followers about the smartwatch Sony tweeted that, “Wearable tech is in our DNA. Remember WALKMAN, now…?” The company has always focused on such technology but the most interesting thing which Sony revealed in one of its tweets was that, “One in three smartphone users want smart wrist wear.” This depicts that wearable devices have a decent demand although it did not match the demand of smartphones, but it is expected that once smartwatches will be made available in good numbers with superlative specs their demand is likely to grow.
In fact, several reports have claimed that Apple and Samsung are developing smartwatches, which will overpower the smartphones, as wearable tech will allow users to make and receive calls, send and receive text messages, listen to music and do lot of other things for which people generally use mobile phone. Let’s see what Sony will offer when the company will roll out its new smartwatch at the forthcoming media event in Shanghai. Nevertheless, a smartwatch is not the only new device that is expected to see the first light in the upcoming event.
The second new device would be the 6.4-inch Xperia ZU smartphone from Sony, which has recently surfaced on the internet in leaked images and is likely to have the capability of supporting writing through pencil and stylus.
