Have a bike lying around? Spinlister can definitely help as the new iPhone app is encouraging people with bicycles and those wanting to rent it out, to connect and communicate. There has been a growing trend in the use of bicycles for various reasons because in the end, there is no harm in it. From living an active lifestyle and staying fit, to cutting down on hurting the environment through the use of gas guzzling vehicles, bikes are a perfect alternative for everything transportation.
According to environmental group, Earth Policy Institute, cyclists in more than 500 cities are linked with bike rentals. This has been seen to increase sharply because of affordability and biggest of all, friendly to the environment.
“A lot of people have amazing bikes, but their bikes are just sitting in their garages,” said Marcelo Loureiro, chief executive officer of Spinlister, according to the Huffington Post.
“If you’re looking for a three to four block ride, no one can beat the city bike share. But sometimes people want to use the bike for the whole day and not be worried about docking the bike or time deadlines,” he added.
Another great feature about the app is that people who want to rent bikes for a longer period of time find it easier to do so. The average bike rental time through the app is three days at a time. This is all possible through the innovating way of being able to track down bikes that are nearby on a map. They can be then further filtered by categorizing them in differences from price, height, availability and what type of bike they are looking for.
According to stats, the daily rate for a bike on the app so far is $10 along with a 12.5% fee. Bike owners looking to have their bicycles rented out have to pay a 17.5% fee to list the bike. This is done by using a credit card with the app.
For Loureiro, renting and listing bikes was not the only motivation for making the app, establishing human relations was top most priority.
“When you rent from a local you can ask, ‘Where’s the best path around here?'” or “Where’s the best burger in the neighbourhood?'” he said.
