On March 27, Squarespace announced that they would be releasing Squarespace Commerce in Canada. The New York based startup offers a website publishing platform that gives users all the services they need from one account so that developing, designing and maintaining a website is easier. One of their other services is Squarespace Commerce which is an integrated solution that allows online retailers the ability to sell both digital and physical products from Squarespace platform. All new users that sign up for the service will get a $24 per month bill that will cover all features. That means users not only get to take advantage of the fast growing startup multiple website services, they will also pay no additional commission and can add as many products as they want.
Squarespace CEO, Anthony Casalena, states that,”Since launching Squarespace Commerce, we’ve gotten an overwhelming amount of requests to make our new e-commerce features available to Canadian users. Canada is our second biggest market, and we’re excited to offer the full range of Squarespace’s features and capabilities in this country.”
The payment side of the service is run by another startup that is currently making waves in Canada and taking on Paypal.
Stripe opened up shop in Canada in November and is rapidly expanding to become one of the top payment processors in the region. The payment processor is making it easier to accept payments online by giving instant approval to applicants, accepting all major types of credit cards accepted, letting seller accept a payment from a buyer from any country in the world while also offering a simple, flat pricing model that does not depend on monthly fees.
The launch of Commerce Canada also comes with three updates to the service including:
“Canadian Currency Support – The currency displayed throughout your Squarespace store will reflect the currency set in your Stripe account currency (which you select upon sign-up, and cannot be changed). All prices are quoted in CAD for Canadian stores on Squarespace.
Tax System Improvements – You can now define taxes internationally and locally, down to the zip code level. As before, you can choose to add tax on products as well as shipping. Easily add more fine-grained shipping rules by jurisdiction, and define local rules by a single postal code or a range of postal codes.
Metric System Support – In Store Settings, you may now choose between Imperial and Metric standards to define product weights and weight-based shipping options.”
