Starbucks Canada’s Latest iOS App Includes PassBook Feature

On October 16 the popular Starbucks Canada brand updated its iPhone app, making version 2.5 available to the public. The most talked about change in the latest app offering from the coffee maker is its addition of Passbook features for iOS 6. The innovative coffee company from Seattle took advantage of the latest update to Apple mobile operating system iOS6 including its PassBook function which is expected to cause major changes in the way mobile transactions take place in several industries.

 

Passbook  is a mobile wallet that lets users store coupons, loyalty cards, movie tickets and boarding passes on their iPhone or other iOS6 enabled device. The user can then access the contents of the PassBook through a single panel without having to switch apps for different types of tickets or coupons.

 

Starbucks is not new to the iPhone app arena and the innovative and tech savvy company was one of the first firms in its sector to utilize the emerging mobile app market to its advantage. The iconic company has been at the forefront of mobile payments, revealing that they have handled millions of mobile payments over the last two years. Starbucks apps have been user friendly, leading to consumers giving the apps positive reviews. The coffee giant has figured out how to make their mobile payment work without requiring NFC which the iPhone lacks. The inclusion of the Passbook should give iPhone users more freedom and incentive to buy from Starbucks.

 

Starbucks has also established a high profile investment arrangement with mobile payment platform Square to process card-based transactions (TQ was on it). The Passbook functionality was made available in the U.S. first, much to the chagrin of Canadian coffee fans. It is nice to see that the valuable feature has been brought to Starbucks crazed Canadians.
