Startup Calgary is dedicated to community building and has acquired the services of Sean Collins for the post of Vice President of Partnerships to help them achieve that goal. The basic purpose of acquiring the services of Collins was to grow the capabilities of Startup Calgary so the organization could “offer more networking and educational events for the community.” Explaining the move, Chairman of Startup Calgary, Hisham Al-Shurafa said, “Sean is incredibly passionate about the startup community in Alberta and has been the driving force behind building AccelerateAB into the largest startup tech event in our province. [He] was also one of the original Co-Founders of PlanHero, one of the first companies to go through Startup Edmonton’s flagship Flightpath Program.”

Collins assignment to Startup Calgary will also serve well to bring IT based startups that are related to communities closer together in Calgary. There numerous basement start-ups, technologies and get togethers that are being organized in the city but not many people are familiar with the events. Collins will make sure that these events are successful. He and the development director of Startup Calgary, Jason Zeiler, will be working closely with each other once he joins the organization. According to Startup Calgary, Zelier will concentrate on hosting and organising various startup events, in addition to creating and driving programs and events during the year. On the other hand Collins admission will not only help the Startup Calgary offer more events, but will take the extra burden off Zelier’s shoulders.

However, this was not the only change that is going to take place in Start Calgary because the organization has also stated that their chairman, Arpad Barabas, is now going to take the role of director, so he could concentrate on his startup called Mobizou for which he has raised some funds recently.

Hisham will be the one, who is going to take the board chair once Arpad steps down. “I’m thrilled to be taking over Arpad’s spot as board chair and to be working with Sean & Jason to take Startup Calgary to the next level in 2013,” Hisham says.

Hopefully all these changes will only make Startup Calgary a better organization because surely the community require its services, so people would get the chance and exposure they need to make their starups world class and help Calgary grow into a technology hub.
