It’s been several months now that different rumours regarding the a smart watch from Apple called the iWatch have been making the rounds. So far unlike its biggest rival Samsung, the Cupertino-based firm has not confirmed officially that it is working on such a device. In spite of this when people were asked during a new ChangeWave survey whether they are interested in buying Apple’s long rumoured iWatch, a similar level of interest was observed in purchasing the alleged device as was experienced at the time when the California-based giant tech was about to announce the iPad. According to the survey, 19 percent of the people said that they are either ‘somewhat’ or ‘very’ likely to purchase the iWatch. People who currently owns various Apple devices showed even more interest in buying the smart watch.

This was certainly remarkable considering the fact that Apple so far did not show any intentions of developing a smart watch but people are getting eager to get their hands on the alleged device.

“The survey results show very strong consumer interest – with 5% of respondents saying they areVery Likely and 14% Somewhat Likely to buy an “iWatch” for themselves or someone else.

How does this level of interest compare to earlier Apple products before they were formally announced?

While there are no exact comparisons, here are the Apple “iWatch” results in relation to the ChangeWave pre-release findings for two earlier very successful Apple launches – a January 2010 survey on the original Apple Tablet and an August 2005 survey on the Apple Intel Mac.”

Rumour has it that Apple’s iWatch will be powered by the “full” edition of iOS operating system, but it would not be as simple as the one found on the iPad nano. In addition to this, several speculations also suggests that the smart watch would be capable to make and receive phone calls, send and receive messages just like a cell phone.

Aside from this some recent patents of Apple and The New York Times reports indicates that curved glass like display is being integrated in the iWatch. Although, it cannot be said with surety whether Apple is working on such watch or not, but patents and a few statements of Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook indicates that the company has something up in its sleeve.

For instance, at the announcement of 2012’s fourth quarter earnings report, Cook said to the investors that “we’re looking at new categories. We don’t talk about them, but we’re looking at them.”
