According to The Telegraph, a recent survey has shown that South Koreans prefer Apple’s iPhone instead of home grown Samsung Galaxy smartphones. The report also divulged that the survey was conducted on 44,168 people, who were between the age of 16 to 64 and a majority of them ranked iPhone above Samsung’s smartphones when it comes to customer satisfaction. This rate of customer satisfaction was determined after the survey reported that only 17 percent iPhone owners in South Korea were having problems with their handset as compared to 31 percent of Samsung Galaxy smartphone owners had issues with their phones.
The statistic clearly shows that Apple’s iPhone has a big edge over Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones. Pointing towards the major issues with Samsung Galaxy smartphones, 20 percent people reported that battery charging is the biggest problem with the handsets. After this, scratches on the LCD, image quality and call related issues were other major problems reported Samsung’s smartphones.
However, in contrast to Samsung handsets, owners of iPhone indicated problems like malfunctioning of button or touch relates issues. This shows that Apple’s flagship smartphone not only has a better call performance and image quality, but also has a better scratch resistant screen.
“Apple is still the most successful foreign manufacturer in South Korea, and other foreign companies including Blackberry, Nokia, Motorola and HTC, have less than one per cent of market share. Two South Korean manufacturers, Pantech and LG, have around 15 per cent each.
Samsung is the most dominant phone manufacturer in its home country, with more than 65 per cent of the overall market share. The company has also had global success in recent years, with Samsung’s global market share growing rapidly to more than 30 per cent, a higher total than Apple’s share.”
The survey shows that apart from several other markets around the globe, South Koreans also prefer iPhone over their local electronics manufacturer’s Galaxy phones. In spite of this positive response from the South Koreans, Apple has seen a big drop in its market share in the country, as it has fallen from 23.2 percent to 3.2 percent on the last three years, which is not a good omen for the Cupertino-based company.
One possible reason behind this big fall in the market share of Apple could be that iPhone falls in the high-end category of smartphones unlike Samsung Galaxy phones, which ranges from low to mid and high-level. Therefore, Galaxy smartphones caters large number of customers.
