Quoting industry sources, a Taiwanese site has claimed that Apple has scheduled the launch of its 9.7-inch iPad 5 in September this year. The fifth generation 9.7-inch iPad from Apple might have a scheduled date of release in September because it is expected that there will not be any major specs upgrades in the new tablet from the previous version. However, Digitimes thinks otherwise, as the site has once again reported that the fifth gen iPad will boast slimmer bezels like the iPad Mini. Still, this is just an estimation, as it is based on unconfirmed reports therefore nothing can be said with surety about the forthcoming iPad 5.

“Since upstream suppliers have mostly finished preparing for the production of the new 9.7-inch iPad, there is unlikely to be any changes in terms of specifications for the device. In addition to the Retina Display, the new tablet features a slimmer bezel design to allow a bigger viewing area, while the number of LED tubes used for the device has been reduced from two to one, and battery longevity is also improved.”

Rumours regarding the change in the design of fifth generation iPad are not new, as these were whirling since the release of the iPad Mini that has a successful design. However, it was the supposed leaked images and video of a slimmer front and back cover of the iPad 5 that really caused the rumour to catch fire. In addition, the leaked images and video also suggested that iPad 5 will be much thinner and lighter as compared to its predecessor, the iPad 4.

Aside from asserting a slimmer design for iPad 5, Digitimes has divulged another interesting fact about the 9.7-inch slate from Apple by reporting that its sources have informed it that so far not a single supplier has received a definite mass-production schedule from the iOS device maker, in spite of the fact that less than two months are left in estimated launch of the full size iPad.

Besides this, Digitimes has also asserted that Apple has not yet decided whether it will include Retina Display in the next generation of iPad Mini or not along with a bezel-less design just like the phablets of HTC and Samsung.

“As for the new 7.9-inch iPad mini, the sources pointed out that Apple is still considering whether to adopt a Retina Display for the device, and if the company decides to do so, the product’s release may be delayed to the end of the fourth quarter.”
