Major retailer Target has announced plans to launch 124 “Target Mobile” retail locations in Canada by next year. The new kiosks will pop up around Target’s retails locations and offer customers the chance to purchase mobile services on the go.
According to reports, the first Target Mobile location will be setup by March or April of 2013. Another piece of news that was announced by Target was the fact that the retailer has granted GLENTEL the contract for wireless sales for Target Mobile. According to GLENTEL, they will offer a “choice of network carriers and an array of wireless devices.” The company that owns WirelessWave and TBooth will be running and maintaining all the Target Mobile locations for the retailer GLENTEL and will be selling devices and subscriptions for most Canadian companies including Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Fido, Virgin, CHATR and SaskTel.
CEO of GLENTEL, Tom Skidmore, was excited about the new deal and said, “We are proud to be selected by Target as the exclusive operator of its mobile communications products and services display fixtures at the majority of store locations across Canada. As Canada’s largest independent multi-carrier mobile phone retailer, GLENTEL is well positioned and committed to delivering its premium wireless retail experience to Target’s valued guests across Canada.”
Target also made a statement through their senior vice president of Merchandising for Target Canada, John Morioka, who said, “Our goal is to bring the true Target brand shopping experience to Canada and this includes partnering with accomplished Canadian companies like GLENTEL to offer our guests the highest quality merchandise and exceptional service. This agreement means that our guests will have access to superior mobile communication products at great value when shopping at our stores.”
