Generally it is believed that the career of a hacker who is found guilty of illegal activity comes to an end once he or she is sent to prison, but it seems that this was not the case with teenager Nicholas Webber, who used to run a cybercrime website called GhostMarket.Net. The young hacker provided details of stolen credit cards online and assist site members through his website tutorials on how to pull off online scams and identity theft. When the British authorities took Webber down, GhostMarket had become one of the biggest criminal sites in the world with 8,500 members. Moreover, it is believed that online frauds across the world which took away £8 million from 65,000 bank accounts were the result of GhostMarket.

According to media reports, when authorities arrested Webber in October 2009 he had barely turned 18. Then in May 2011 Webber finally received an imprisonment term of five years and since then he is in the Category C male Young Offenders Institution of HM Prison Isis that is located in South East London. However, the teenage hacker did not learn his lesson even after that, as according to Daily Mail, after getting sentenced Webber somehow got admission into the IT class of the prison where he got another chance to showcase his skills. The genius took down the mainframe computer of the prison after he managed to hack into it through his IT class computer.

Report says that although a spokesperson of the HM Prison Isis did acknowledge that Webber was involved in the malicious activity he has acted like it is not a big deal. “At the time of this incident in 2011 the educational computer system at HMP Isis was a closed network. No access to personal information or wider access to the internet or other prison systems would have been possible.”

This story would not have caught the headlines if Webber’s IT class teacher Michael Fox did not come up with the claim that his removal from the job after the incident was not fair. Fox has said that he was not the one who had took the decision to enroll Webber in the IT class and he was also not aware of young prisoner’s past record.

Hopefully, authorities of the HM Prison Isis might have learned their lesson and let’s pray that they will not give Webber another chance to exploit their system.
