TELUS announced on Monday, May 27th that it is all set to make another $700 million investment across Alberta in new facilities and infrastructure as a part of a three-year long $2 billion obligation which was made last year. As a result of this fresh investment the Canadian telecom carrier will not only extend its wireless network, but also expand its healthcare solutions and optic cable service. Prior to this, TELUS had invested $26 billion on technology and operations throughout this region since 2000. The carrier also made it known that due to this fresh investment company will be able to enhance coverage of its network on highways and in rural areas by setting up new wireless sites in the area. In addition areas like Calgary and Edmonton will get specific investments of $125 million and $103 million respectively.

In a statement, President and CEO of TELUS Darren Entwistle said that, “Our sustained investment in technology and infrastructure since 2000 has already made Alberta one of the most connected places anywhere in the world. This year TELUS continues that legacy, once again connecting even more Albertans to our advanced communications infrastructure and all of the benefits it creates. Our top priority is to put our customers first in all that we do.

In this regard, we know how vital our infrastructure is for Albertans, that it is the backbone used by small businesses to market their services and accept payments, the integrated network through which home and mobile entertainment and communication flow, and critical to advances in how doctors care for their patients. Our commitment to you is that our focus on ensuring Alberta is a global leader in respect of telecommunications infrastructure will continue not just this year, but for the years and decades to come.”

Mr. Entwistle also stated that, “At TELUS, we give where we live, recognizing that our investment in local organizations through donations and volunteering is as important as our investment in technology and infrastructure. Since 2000, our TELUS family of more than 14,000 employees and retirees in Alberta alongside our company has donated over $93 million and, more importantly, volunteered 1.4 million hours to community and charitable organizations such as the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Fairytales Presentation Society, Children’s Ability Fund and the Inn from the Cold.”

Prior to this, TELUS has launched its 4G LTE network in over 85 percent of Alberta province and now latest expansions between Edmonton and Calgary, the Cold Lake on highway number two and other areas of the region.
