According to the latest update, well-known Vancouver-based telecommunication group TELUS is going to acquire MD Practice Software that is actually a division of the Canadian Medical Association. However, the Canadian tech company has not unveiled any details related to the deal but one thing is clear that TELUS Health is acquiring a business that TechVibes states  “is the largest electronic medical records business in Ontario.” TELUS has made it known that the latest acquisition will bump up the the number of doctors in Canada using their electronic medical records to 9,000.

President of Telus Health, Paul Lepage said that, “Telus Health firmly believes that by securely connecting physicians to the broader healthcare continuum and facilitating confidential interactions between the patient and their full care teams, we will further realize our vision of turning information into better health outcomes.”

President of the Canadian Medical Association Dr. Anna Reid added that, “The most important concern for physicians is to provide the highest quality health care to their patients. Electronic medical records that connect front line physicians with health care teams are an important tool in delivering high-quality care.”

President of MD Practice Software, Mike Gassewitz, said on this occasion that, “We are proud of the support we have provided physicians and our involvement in the evolution of EMR platforms, assisting in fundamentally changing the nature of healthcare.”

With this new acquisition, TELUS Health will now become the largest electronic medical records provider in the entire country from just being the main record provider in Ontario. In addition, the Canadian company will also be able to improve the rate of adopting electronic medical records with the acquisition, as Canada is behind Europe in welcoming the technology into clinics. It can be judged from the fact that the penetration of electronic medical records is over 90 percent in various regions of Euope but in Canada it is just 56 percent according to TELUS.

TELUS believes that the introduction of new technology should be well-timed, which will enable them to provide superior services to their customers. Therefore, change is necessary for TELUS as technology plays a vital role in bringing about that change. MD Practice Software will prove to be another milestone in the history of the company because apart from increasing the strength of doctors who uses electronic medical record it will also support the company’s national growth as well.
