One of the leading telecommunication companies of Canada, TELUS, has recently made a $4.5 million investment to introduce high speed internet and Optik TV services to more residences of Squamish. In another related initiative, the Vancouver-based company will disburse $25 in favour of each new Optik TV customer in Squamish during the next six months in order to back the Squamish Trails Society that is a non-profit society run by volunteers working to improve the Golf Course and Spawning Channel trails. This means that TELUS has to pay about $30,000 in upcoming months on behalf of 1,200 customers in Squamish.
According to the Squamish Trails Society, the steps it is taking to improve the Golf Course and Spawning Channel trails will not only encourage safer travel to work and school for the residents of the area, but it will also boost safe outdoor activities.
Talking about the latest move from TELUS, Bob Brant of the Squamish Trails Society said that, “The re-surfacing of these frequently-used trails has been a priority for a number of years. We are grateful that, with this gift from TELUS, we can ensure safer use for our area residents and visitors. These trails are well-worn due to their popularity and are often the culprit of rolled ankles or bumps and bruises. We’re excited that this resurfacing will make the trails safer, encouraging more families to make use of our beautiful surroundings.”
The General Manager for the Sea-to-Sky Corridor of TELUS, Lisa LaMothe added that, “We are very proud to be supporting the Squamish Trails Society to improve these multi-use trails that will encourage residents to get outside and enjoy a healthy and safe active lifestyle. As an avid outdoors enthusiast myself, I appreciate safe walking trails and thank all of our new Optik TV customers for helping to make this donation possible.”
TELUS has also made it known that since 2000 retirees and team members of the company have voluntarily given a 1,000 hours of service to community organizations and charities of Squamish. So TELUS is not only offering differentiation and advantage to the customers, but it is also actively helping the society for a good cause. TELUS has been able to make a name for itself by managing charity, current technology and apt introduction of the latest technologies and it is expected to do well in the future as well if it kept following these practices.
