The recent release of the iPhone 5 has seen the phone become a huge hit and the global demand for the device has caused major shortages. Some customers who pre-ordered the device have had to wait to receive their Apple devices. Canada has had similar problems to the rest of the world and customers that ordered their iPhone through the major telecoms have also had to face delays. MobileSyrup has revealed that wireless service provider TELUS is offering some customers the 32GB iPhone 5 instead of the 16GB version because they do not have enough devices on hand to complete all orders on time. The 16GB iPhone 5 seems to have been hit the hardest by customer demand because it is priced lower than the 32GB and 64GB version.

Customer’s that were offered the deal from TELUS received a note that stated the following:

“Thanks for pre-ordering the iPhone 5 (16GB) with TELUS. This device has been so popular that there’s a very limited quantity across Canada and internationally. To help manage our restricted supply, we’re offering select pre-order customers an upgrade to a 32GB phone if you’re willing to wait two weeks to receive it.”

The catch is that customers have to wait two weeks before they get their 32GB iPhone5. Customers that choose to wait until October 12th will save $100 dollars on their Apple smartphone. The 16GB iPhone5 is being sold through TELUS for $179 along with a three year contract. The 32GB Apple device is selling for $279 with a contract of the same length. Rumors making the rounds suggest that the new iPhone5 shortages are due to the manufacturing of in-cell displays.
