Vancouver’s TELUS Mobility has elected to invest another $8.4 million into Altantic Canada over the next three years. The large telco, who already have $45 million invested in the area will be using the new infusion of funds towards advanced technologies, mainly in improving their wireless speed.

The investment will also stimulate job growth, with 65 people being hired to support the growth of the infrastructure. TELUS has been providing service in the Maritimes since 2000, and with demand and service growing in the area, the opportunity to invest in the expansion of 4G and LTE services made good business sense.

The company has done well to expand their reach on the East Coast, even going as far as to add the goodwill of famed Gen. (Ret.) Rick Hillier, Canada’s former chief of defence staff who now serves as the Chair of TELUS’ Atlantic Canada Community Board. Born in Newfoundland, the retired senior officer is heavily involved in public speaking as well as writing books that have been well received. He is held in high regard by military people, East Coasters and Canadians as a whole.

TELUS supports 7.4 million wireless subscribers nationwide while earning $10.5 billion in annual revenue.
