Apple’s iPhone surely has a huge demand in Canada, but the theft of the iOS-based smartphone is also on the rise in the country. Due to rise in this crime, recently a Toronto-based actor, Jeff Hanson had to suffer severe injuries, as he was dragged along with a car when a thief tried to steal his iPhone. Recalling the incident, Hanson said that when he was walking back after giving a performance on Tuesday night around 11:00 pm a car stopped close to him and asked if they could call a friend from his iPhone to get directions. Hanson leaned into the car to give his iPhone, the driver snatched his mobile phone and put the foot on accelerator to get away. Unfortunately Hanson got a hold of the car from inside after which things became really ugly. The actor said said, “I had a fight-or-flight reaction.” Hanson got a hold of the car and said the driver “booted right up to 60 kilometres an hour and started bobbing and weaving through cars. It was raining, so my boots were on the ground and I was basically skiing the cement.”
Nevertheless, it did not stop the driver from speeding up his car, while Hanson was still hanging on to it. In fact, at one stage according to Hanson, “I was in utter disbelief that it was happening. He was swearing and yelling, ‘Let go!’ and I said, ‘You’re going 60 to 70. If I let go, I could die.’ ”
Later after crossing a block the thief started to accelerate towards a parked car. It was this moment when Hanson finally realised that if he did not let it go he could be crushed and “that could have been really bad.” Hanson started rolling the moment he let the car go and soon people rushed towards him, but by then the driver was long gone. As a result of this accident, Hanson suffered deep cuts and bruises to his chest and face along with mild concussion. Hanson received 20 stitches, but plastic surgeons told him that once recovered he will look absolutely normal for his acting projects.
According to Det. Christopher Chilvers, said “The victim is lucky to be alive,” and “It’s incredible what this person did just to steal an iPhone.” It was later released that the thief who had stolen Hanson’s iPhone has snatched two more iOS smartphones from two women and he was driving a white Dodge Charger, which was damaged from the passenger side, whereas the suspect is expected to be in mid 30’s and have a tan skin, British accent, short brown hair and is about six feet tall.
