During a recent interview conducted on Thursday, March 21st, the CEO of BlackBerry, Thorsten Heins revealed that a top-end BlackBerry 10 handset will be released during the holiday season of 2013. He also said during the interview that they are quite excited about the high-end model, as it “takes Blackberry 10 to another level in terms of the user experience.” However, the CEO of the Waterloo-based company also mentioned that the launch date of the high-end phone is not set, so consumers could also expect its debut in 2014. Besides this, Heins also mentioned that BlackBerry has plans to launch a mid-level BB10 smartphone later this year. The much talked about physical QWERTY model of BlackBerry, the Q10, will also be made available where the all-touch BlackBerry Z10 was released. But the BlackBerry Q10 will hit stores one or two months after the mid-range model.
The 55 year old CEO confirmed that BlackBerry’s aim is to develop three different ranges of products, as the company wants to equip each tier with a physical QWERTY keyboard and all-touch screen. Additionally, all the models of BlackBerry will share the same resolution and 4.2-inch screen that was incorporated into the Z10 because it will allow the developers to create apps, which will look consistent throughout the board.
The news of a high-end model in BlackBerry model will certainly create lot of excitement among the Canadian company’s fans, but for the time being it’s the US-based fans turn to make the buzz, as the company has finally launched its latest BlackBerry Z10 and OS in the US. To launch the Z10, BlackBerry has joined hands with different telecom carriers from the US, including AT&T, which will offer the new handset to its customers.
The app catalogue of the BlackBerry World has also grown to the 100,000 mark, which was another incredible feat for the BlackBerry smartphone maker who added 30,000 more apps after the launch of BB10 at the start of last month, which means that within seven weeks it has touched the 100,000 mark. However, BlackBerry still has a long way to go because in comparison to the Google and Apple’s platform it still lacks lot of apps.
For instance Google Play houses roughly 700,000 apps, whereas Apple’s App Store features 775,000 apps. Furthermore, BlackBerry’s latest platform has yet to prove that it is reliable and secure. But if BlackBerry was able to cover all the weaknesses then, there is a good chance for the company to jump back into the game.
