Tindr Solutions Inc. provides a wide range of services from strategic project advice to software development and has recently announced that they will be separating form their parent company Maplesoft Group. Originally, Mike Kelland, who was the vice-president of corporate architecture and engineering at Maplesoft, setup the software development group and swiftly grabbed the attention of company bigwigs. However, despite receiving the passionate support from the parent company, Tindr chose not be under Maplesoft due in large part to the fact that the firm wanted its own independence, culture and accolades. Therefore, Mr. Kelland developed a proposal in which his group would break off from Maplesoft. His proposal got accepted by the parent company’s board of directors who also asked for some ownership and a place on the board. The main reason for the separation was that Maplesoft focused on selling and integrating Oracle and Wesley Clover software while Tindr actually developed its own software.

In August of 2011, Mr. Kelland’s new group finally received a name, Tindr Solutions Inc. and started its business operations with a staff of four people. With the passage of time this company started building on is reputation by provided quality assistance to its clientele with advertising software that attributes accurately and market strategy that helps boost its profits.   In addition to this, it became an inexpensive option for North American outsourcing, as its head offices were located in Gatineau. The geographic location also allows Tindr and its clients to benefit from research & developments credits for technology and Quebec tax rates that contribute tremendously towards the bottom line.

Thanks to the hard work of Mr. Kelland, who bridged the gap between senior engineer and vice president position to founder of Tindr in just three years explains his company’s growth success by saying that, “Our growth has been a function of us being clear about what we’re good at. We know we’re really good at (helping) developers, for example. We talk to clients who are using that technology and work with them to do web opportunities for their business.”  Most importantly, Tindr has been able to secure a decent base of customers in this short span of time. This list of clients includes some large and renowned companies as well such as Canadian Blood Services, Brookfield Renewable Power and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.

However, Maplesoft CEO Jody Campeau told that much of the growth of Tindr is the result of Maplesoft’s support. He said, “When they need people … our consulting arm provides the people. We have a sales machine in Ottawa, and in the (National Capital Region), with the federal government and private sector. A lot of times, we’ll bring opportunities to them that we’re not interested in necessarily going after ourselves.”

Moreover, Tinddr is looking to expand its operations, as they focus on enterprise integrations and service-oriented architecture under the supervision of Shan Gu, who is the new vice-president for the division. This has happened because the federal government is aggressively focusing on this area of business and innovation. As a result of that Tindr will now look to break down complicated technology into undemanding building blocks, so that they can be used in multiple projects at a later time. “It’s reusable, it allows an organization to be flexible, and it gets services out the door very quickly. Government can do a lot more (with) less,” says Shan Gu.
