Late last week, Starbucks announced the highly anticipated integration of Passbook functionality into their iOS app. Unfortunately for those of us north of the U.S. border, the Canadian version of their app did not receive the same upgrade treatment, a bummer to say the least.

Thanks to the good people at iPhone in Canada however, a workaround has been discovered to bring Passbook to your Starbucks apps in time for Pumpkin Spice Lattes. All that is required to begin with is setting up a U.S. iTunes Account in order to access the U.S. version of the App Store. Although this may seem like a lot of work for a measly app upgrade, please bear in mind the awesomeness that is Passbook if you are grabbing a morning coffee before an important meeting.

The steps required are as follows:

1. Set up a U.S.  iTunes account by following the instructions found here.

2. Use your U.S. account to sign into the App Store and download the Starbucks iPhone app on your mobile device.

3. Launch the app and proceed to do the following – Home ‘Settings’ Country and select the United States.

4. Along the bottom of the app screen, make note of the eGifts option. Select this option and send an eGift to yourself. You can also send yourself an eGift using Starbucks.com.

5. Once the eGift and code there within arrives in your email account, select the option within the Starbucks app that allows you to enter a new card number by selecting ‘Card’ and the ‘+’ button.

6. Once you have added the card, go to ‘My Cards’ and select the option ‘Manage’. Upon doing so, you will be given the option to add your new card to Passbook as well as set your favourite Starbucks locations.

7. Once all of the above is complete, launch your Passbook and your Starbucks card will be listed. The phone and Starbucks card are now fully functional and ready to use.
