After acquiring a France-based startup, Pulfingers that makes iOS apps for picture browsing, photo sharing startup 500px has launched its own hihgly awaited iPhone app. This was not the first iOS app that 500px has developed thus far, as a year ago they had released an app for iPad, using the larger screen to showcase its excellent photo platform. Therefore, 500px released an updated version of its iPad app along with new iPhone app.

The latest 500px iPhone app has the same black and white interface that the previous iPad app has. The developers at 500px repeated this interface because it really highlights the pictures. Apart from this there are not many similarities between the two apps. The team of developers at 500px has introduced a different kind of navigation in the iPhone app that is pushed in the left side of the screen instead of having a traditional single screen interface.

Users can access the menus on this fresh styled navigation just by tapping the “500” logo, leading way to the Help, Settings and Notifications right away. If users select the picture icon, they can move between profile, home screen and photos of other users, while text on the right of this picture icon allows them to further filter these pictures.

The profile menu in this app is comprised of options like Following (shows which people (friends) users are following), Favourites and a new section named ‘Flow’ that enable users to view pictures that their friends on 500px have commented on or specified as favourite, providing an excellent way to locate new photographers.

Interestingly users can also connect with their Twitter and Facebook account through this latest iPhone app, as it features a “Find Your Friends” option as well that will allow them to find and follow more people. In addition to this the iPhone app also suggests top photographers to its users.

Explaining about this sophisticated selection CEO of 500px, Oleg Gutsol said that, “We have an algorithm that determines the best photography, and also the interesting people and interesting photographers”. However, 500px missed a major feature to add in this iPhone app, mainly that users will not be able to upload pictures through the application. The company has assured its users that they will include this feature in the next release. Aside from this, the future plans of this Canadian startup also includes adding to their team and the release of a community site that will be a combination of both forums and groups.
