Marketing is essential for any business but may be one of the areas that many small and local businesses ignore. KnexxLocal, a Canadian technology startup, decided to change that by developing an app that can assist local businesses to market themselves online. As a result of this effort, KnexxLocal released their free iOS app by the name of Instamonial on Wednesday, February 13. According to KnexxLocal, Instamonial basically enables local businesses to take pictures of their work by utilizing the camera feature of the application. After that the businessman sends these pictures to customer through the app by attaching the photos with an email requesting them to give their opinion on the work. Once these pictures are reviewed they will be uploaded on the website of the business and shared through various social media sites together with a real-time review from customers, says KnexxLocal.

Another interesting feature of Instamonial is that it also makes it simple for users to manage and track their contacts by enabling businesses to stay in touch with their customers and offer them more deals.

Explaining the new app, the CEO of KnexxLocal, Paul Chen said that, “Word-of-mouth referrals are the single most important tool that local businesses can use to grow their business. Today, with the launch of Instamonial, we’re giving local businesses a way to use social media to grow those referrals in a way that wasn’t possible before. By enabling one-click sharing of customer references across social media channels, Instamonial super-charges word-of-mouth marketing.”

Last week, KnexxLocal successfully raised $1.1 million in funds as a result of a seed round investment. This funding round was led by a firm called Round 13 Capital that is co-founded by Bruce Croxon, who is also a panel judge on Dragon’s Den and co-founder of LavaLife. Therefore, being an investor of this Toronto-based startup Bruce also shared his thoughts on the launch of Instamonial.

He said that, “The shift in consumer expectations and growth in online reviews over the past few years has presented a big challenge for local business owners who don’t have a lot of time or resources to dedicate to online marketing. Simplifying the process for business owners to receive referrals from satisfied customers and distribute them easily online is the ultimate goal of localized, online word-of-mouth marketing.”

With the launch of this app KnexxLocal has surely proved that it is facilitating local businesses to connect with more and more customers by simply using a smartphone.
