Education, whether formal and structured or sought in bits and bobs from various sources is one of the most valuable resources available. We have all heard that knowledge is power, however I humbly believe that it is specific knowledge directed towards goals or self-improvement that provide what is learnt with power. Everyone among us that possess the desire to learn, regardless of their craft, field or interest will be happy to hear that there are very good websites that have been created specifically for that purpose.

Among the field, Udemy, which provides an open online educational platform, covers a wide range of topics taught by subject matter experts from around the world. A good number of the courses are free and can include anything from video lectures, written content as well as actual teaching videos that focus on the application of lessons. Paid courses provide similar content and are relatively affordable as compared to brick and mortar financial institutions.

As if that wasn’t enough to convince you to give these sites a chance, they also provide significant supplemental income to a group that is routinely among the least compensated given their impact on others. That would be teachers, who have the opportunity to broaden their student base, perfect their craft as well as earn from doing so thanks to the aforementioned site and others that are similar.

According to an article published on TechCrunch, the top 10 instructors on Udemy earned a whopping $1.6M over the past year, all ranging between $50K and $200K. Most of these teachers taught material geared towards entrepreneurship and business content, areas where pupils are constantly striving to get better.

We invite all of our readers as well as others across our great Canadian nation to check out Udemy as well as other sites such as Khan Academy, 2tor, Udacity, Pathwright, StraighterLine, TED Ed and Course Hero among others. Life is about learning and constantly improving. Technology provides us with ample opportunity to do so.
